One of the most common questions I hear from expecting parents is:
“When should I book our newborn photography session?”
If you’re based in or around Milton Keynes and expecting a baby, this guide will walk you through the ideal timing — and help you feel confident you won’t miss out.

When is the best time to book newborn photography?
The best time to book your newborn photography session is during pregnancy, ideally after your 12-week scan.
Newborn photographers work around due dates rather than fixed session dates, and I only take on a limited number of newborns each month to allow flexibility when babies arrive.
Booking early means:
- Your due date is reserved in my diary
- You’re not rushing after birth
- You can relax knowing it’s all organised
What age is best for newborn photos?
Newborn sessions usually take place when your baby is between 5–21 days old.
At this stage:
- Babies are naturally sleepier
- They’re more comfortable being gently curled
- Sessions tend to be calmer and more settled
That said, if your baby arrives early, late, or you miss this window — don’t panic. I regularly photograph older newborns and premature babies, adapting each session to suit them.

Why booking early really matters
Milton Keynes is a busy area for newborn photography, and availability can fill quickly.
Leaving it until after birth can mean:
- Limited availability
- Less flexibility with dates
- Feeling rushed during a very emotional time
Booking during pregnancy removes that stress completely.
